You've been trying to build muscle at the gym for months and months now and you aren't seeing any progress. You complain about it to your friend Claudia, who seems to be able to pack on muscle almost without trying. "I don't get it", she says, "look how big my arms and shoulders are, after only a year?" She flexes as you compare your bodies, and you realise with a sinking feeling she is much more built that you. She offers to show you through some exercises, but as she easily tosses the dumbbells around you realise not only is she bigger than you - she's stronger too. What started as a friendly conversation turns into her making fun of you for being so tiny and weak, and offering to turn it into a competition about who can get bigger the fastest... a competition you're bound to loose.
